Today I took a trip to Devilbend Reservoir - parking located on Graydens Road. Driving down Derril Road I was exposed to my first view of the reservoir, it was a truly amazing view and I stopped my car to take a photo.
I parked my car in the parking lot that connects onto a picnic area that is open to the public.
The view of the reservoir from the picnic area was breathtaking and not as how I thought it would look from photos I had seen - it is hard to capture the incredible beauty and aura the reservoir emitted.
There are three main walking tracks and three designated fishing zones. The first walking track – The Western Shoreline Trail – is 600m in length and has a fishing zone towards the end. From this trail you can see where rock was once quarried from the reservoir wall.
The second walking track – The Eastern Shoreline Trail – runs for 200m and also has a fishing zone. This track lets you see the large scale of the reservoir and the many birds it hosts.
The third and final track – The Daangean Point Track – runs for 600m and also has a fishing zone. It runs through the remnant lowland forest and again shows a large portion of the reservoir and the many birds.
It surprised me how little people there were at the reservoir. There were only three other people I saw. This seemed unwarranted, as the reservoir was truly beautiful and peaceful.
I spent about an hour at Devilbend and then made my way to Bittern Reservoir. It only took me about two minutes to get to here and is located on Hodgins Road. It was a very small reservoir compared to Devilbend. The whole reservoir is open to the public and you are able to walk all the way around it.
Here was where I found the concrete spillway that flows the water back to the natural course of the creek. This was created because the creek was modified with the construction of the reservoir.
After staying here for about 15 minutes I decided to leave, as I was exhausted from the busy day. While driving down Hodgins Road I stopped my car as I crossed a bridge that passed over Devilbend Creek.
Overall it was a fantastic day and will definitely visit again in the future.
