Devilbend reserve is made up of two reservoirs; Devilbend and Bittern.
The larger body of water is Devilbend Reservoir and the smaller body of water on the bottom right of the picture is Bittern Reservoir.
Both reservoirs were created as a water supply for the growing population on the Mornington Peninsula. They were never actually used for this purpose as the Mornington Peninsula gained access to Cardinia Reservoir. As a result, Devilbend and Bittern Reservoirs were decommissioned in 2000-2001. It is now a Natural Features Reserve and hosts a variety of fauna and flora.
The future of Devilbend reserve will be dependent on what priority is given to specific values from nature conservation to recreation. Devilbend reserve is a sanctuary to many species – some labeled State significant – so the preservation of the reserve is a high priority.
